Tell micks agony aunt about your plant problems

mate my marsilia drummondii keeps getting black algae on it .

Vie found theres a few plants that seem to attract a growth of black beard algae i.e.; anubias java ferns sword plants and marsilia sp It usually means you have a imbalance in the tank such as too much light and not enough co2 is a common cause .To rid the tank of it (I'm not sure that’s completely possible in my display tank if I look hard enough I can see some on the drift wood )increase co2 levels and make sure you have good water circulation as it thrives in stagnant part of the tank . A fast way of ridding the tank is to turn of the filters and with a syringe bathe the effected plants with excel not forgetting to turn the filters back on after

Mick my Blyxa japonica look's like it's melting is this normal?

i only got it off of Andy a few day's ago would this have something to do with it?

Japonica doesn't like moving much especially if the water peramiters are different ,most times it will regrow OK What ph do you run your tank at

not quite sure i'll test it for ya tonight i think it'll be around 7 as i don't have tap water only bore water.

hey mick did a ph test last night and it's about 7 to 7.2 is this to high?

not really but if the plants came from a 6.5ph source they might have a set back for a week or two

Im using 1 150w HQI MH + 2 HO T5's

Because im getting those pompom algae. the thing is...its suppose to be green, BUT with the high co2...it goes white...so its dead but alive?
